Dr. Jason Spurling has been practicing in West Plains since completing his training at the Cox Family Medicine Residency Program in 2004. Early in his career, he and his partners provided the full scope of family medicine—from delivering babies to caring for patients in the clinic, hospital, and nursing home settings. Throughout this time, he also served in numerous physician leadership roles at Ozarks Healthcare, including chairman of multiple departments and committees, two years as chief of staff, and eight years on the board. Most recently, he served as Medical Director for Clinics and continues to remain active on the medical staff.

As the healthcare landscape has evolved over the past decade, Dr. Spurling’s practice has naturally shifted toward a focus on outpatient primary care. Teaching has remained a central part of his work. For the past 12 years, he has served as the local medical director for the University of Missouri–Columbia School of Medicine’s Rural Track Program, bringing rural medical students to the area for hands‑on training. He has also been an adjunct professor for the University of Missouri School of Medicine since 2005.

Over the last twenty years, medicine has seen remarkable advances—new technologies, improved therapeutics, and innovations that have saved lives and enhanced quality of life for countless individuals. Yet during this same period, the industry has also faced increasing fragmentation, reduced access to primary and specialty care, and a noticeable decline in customer service. The shift from traditional full‑scope family medicine to clinic‑based primary care has been part of this broader transformation.

In 2024, Dr. Spurling began shaping a new model of primary care—one rooted in the belief that medicine is a calling, not merely a profession, and that our purpose is ultimately to serve others. Guided by Christ‑centered values, this vision grew into a commitment to create a premier, patient‑centered experience.

We have assembled a talented team of providers and staff who share these values, this vision, and a genuine servant’s heart for people. Our focus is on deeply collaborative teamwork and delivering highly personalized, relationship‑driven care. With decades of combined experience, we aim to partner with local organizations to advocate for our patients and strengthen the continuity of care throughout our community.

For all of us at Patient First Family Care, this work is truly a ministry. We are honored to serve our community and look forward to being a blessing to one another.
